in alpha the cinematic still look the same, they aren't remaking it, very disappointed

Well, me thinks the season of diablo3 that diablo 2 is coming out will have a participant deficit.

Scenario. Pubescent teen plays d2 from original through I.o.d. Everything that went with it. It was amazing. Have never forgotten the enjoyment. Now I'm 38 and im dropping 2k on a gaming rig just for this game.

My notebook runs D3, can i assume its going run D2R?

It will be interesting to see how the feel... well “feels.” This same team remastered 3 of my games (I was the co-creator and lead programmer of the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy). In that case they messed up the feel. It was in the ballpark, but they broke a bunch of critical nuances that I had carefully designed and it messed with the gameplay. I think they just didn’t understand my code, but they broke the subtle “loft” that came from holding the jump button longer. In real Crash if you tap jump quickly you do a shorter jump than if you hold it down. In the remake they just set the jump to always be max. This makes it just feel more awkward. The analog jump was designed to help translate the intentions of the player into character actions. The result was some jumps were harder in the remake. There are various other similar “detuning”. They really mangled the sound mix too. But it overall a good (but not perfect) remake. The originals (I play in emulation) are still better. The D2 remake does look WAY better though as D2 graphics are incredibly outdated now. I’m also very bummed that they may not support MacOS as Diablo has always run on the Mac.

Looks better than I thought it would, but as good as I had hoped. I haven't seen much gameplay footage of Acts IV & V yet, so I assume they are holding that for later. I wonder if audio will have better channel seperation.

What I always wanted from a D2 evolution was mostly two things, more and shared storage, and secondly not losing my bloody chars or bnet account every 30-90 days. Hopefully modern cloud/server infrastructure and petabytes of hard-drives these days can take care of that. ( I've always been very curious to know what hardware bnet1 was running on ) SO far it's looking good on that front. I would even be ready to pay for a storage extension ala mmo if need be.. Another complaint I have is the ladder bullcrap where you have to start from scratch every time you get back to the game in order to get access to proper runewords and so on. Never understood what was the point of artificially make the gametime longer when nobody was paying monthly for it anyway..

Make sure they fix the pallys charge skill LOCK. I loved playing a charge pally but was to OP knock backing players across the map so they locked the skill and broke it by only being able to charge 1 time then have to exit game and rejoin. Just make the skill cost a lot of mana or have a long cooldown time don't LOCK it ??? It's looking good though.

making RUNE WORDS awesome.. like making the outfits or weapon looks different after you complete the rune word, like it will transform its power to the weapon and it will look cooler on your character.. that will be awesome for 2021.. because in the past you will look like a peasant.. so if thy change the design adding flavor to it color and weapon effects and armor effects so your character will look badass.. not generic and common because of the sockets.. rune word complete and boom armor shines and changes to a new armor with awesome looks to it! pls push this to the D2R so it will be applied soon..

I already own the diablo 3 eternal collection so it's cool I'll get to save money cause normally I like to get the gold edition or equivalent to it for a game I'm interested in, I never got to experience d2 I'm really hyped to try it

Its nice but I recently replayed diablo 2 and to be honest the game mechanics itself are outdated, it gets boring once you completed the game. Coming from a big fan that played it for years when I was a teenager.

Who cares about the auto gold pick up? Everyone is going to be using a pick it app that will use an item filter and pick up all your items for you.

So cool. It's a nice touch that they're bringing it to consoles even though I'll never play it with a controller. Vicarious Visions seem incredibly talented at understanding what makes a classic game good and what modern features people need. I'd have loved for them to package a Diablo 1 remaster in with it as I've never played it, but that was only ever wishful thinking.

Wait, I just noticed this, the bone spear that necro uses 4:20 is totally different than Classic D2 Bone Spear, which is not good at all :D Necro was my fav class and I simply can't stand this look of ice lance in place of bone spear. I will try and give a feedback on forums lol

I wish they would buff to some skills to change the meta. Like fire skills for Sin, Druid, vengence for pally to name some.

Unpopular opinion: I mostly care about the game running in 85 fps better than how D3 runs in 85 fps. I use an MBR monitor and I just can't play games anymore without it.

My biggest question is as far as gameplay goes, since this is still on the same D2 engine, will the framerate breakpoints be the same as far as the gear aspect goes according to the newly rendered graphics? Will the reskin and the 4k resolution have any impact on things like FCR and IAS and will it diminish the use of desync with a number of abilities? I may be over analyzing it and it may not have any affect at all since the two things may not be relevant to each other. Any insight on this?

Hopefully we get a new second expansion.

@opaz79 because there not removing the old diablo both of them are gonna be live and as you saw in the trailer there going for a 30/70 change which means 30% will be different 70% will be the same and you can revert the graphics if you want. when they reforged warcraft 3 they changed the base game but in diablo remaster its gonna be the base game with a few changes and with mod support mods can always revert changes

That was my biggest problem, I would forget for a bit come back to play and had to start over 3 times. Only reason why I probably haven't played periodically to this day. This is definitely one of the very few things they need to change.

I am actually excited about this. Playing many modern ARPGs only one ever caught my attention for an extended period of time, Grim Dawn. I always felt the mechanics and systems in D2 were perfect for the genre, distilled down to an amazingly replayable set of systems that made it what it was. So seeing such an updated version may pull me back into the game since I haven't played this in AGES. My Javazon and Zookeepers are ready.

we've seen Blizzard attempt a remake twice before. One was expected (SC Remastered) and the other was a disappointment (WC3 refunded). I'll hold my excitement until it is released.

"Diablo 2 Resurrected will be released for consoles" - Ok, now I understand why they are reworking D2. Why didn't they remake D1 - which is much more difficult to play nowadays? D2 is still playable as it is.

I am glad they are remaking the cinematics. They didn't age well and are full of the uncanny valley.

Diablo 2 was incredible and still has replayability to this day, but they’ll find a way to ruin the remastered version. Look at WC3 Reforged. Actually, there’s no reason to remake Diablo II, it’s Incredible as is and should be left as is. This is clearly just an easy cash grab for them.

Blizzard should stop D4 development let the D2R team takeover later on!

Why do the items and stuff look worse than classic d2? like fr they look older than the older models. The thick borders on the tabs need thinned also, shit looks ridiculously big. I hope that they don't allow bots, pick-it or maphack. You know since those are the fucking things that kill the game market/community.
